Google has announced an alternative to Pinterest that lets users categorise posts, photos and videos by topic or interest to create content collections.
Google+ Collections content appears in the curator’s profile stream, and can be shared publicly, privately or with specific Google+ users.
Google+ Collections is currently available for Android and on the Web – iOS is to follow later, according to Google.
Why should you care?
We don’t expect a mass exodus from Pinterest to Google+ with the launch of Google+ Collections, but any person or company that has already made a home on Google+ will welcome this news.
For one thing, as we have previously suggested, Google+ is changing, but not going away. And, for another, Collections finally addresses a shortcoming that required marketers create separate Google+ Pages for each topic or vertical, something that Google says few were willing to do.
