Google’s no longer a dependable source for traffic, revenue, and leads.
More often, it’s now a competitor. That’s because more searches on Google now end on Google.
There is no click to a website shown in the search results, because Google has already answered the searcher’s question.
- Google’s customer is the searcher, and they want to provide the best user experience for them. If that means scraping the content of lots of websites to present searchers with the answers to common queries, that’s what they’ll do.
- The ratio of zero-click searches will increase. Google says they will use BERT, the November algorithm update, to produce more featured snippets, particularly for long-tail searches.
- The solution? One answer, according to Australian marketing platform Longtail UX, is to automate the creation of long-tail landing pages.
“The reason to build a website is for customers to visit it. And as of now, half the time that just isn’t happening.”
